"SAIPEH is using sport to educate the youth on the dangers of HIV/AIDS and this has worked. Many youths are now visiting VCT Centres to know their HIV status. This makes them to live healthy lives. The presence of SCI in Kenya gives hope to many young people."

Justin Mutobera,
Executive Director,
SAIPEH
| Working
with other charities SCI has built relationships with several Government Based Organisations (NGOs) within Kenya. We have spent time over a number of years finding people who recognise the value of sport in order to effect change in a community. In partnership we are able to make a greater difference than trying to go it alone, making the best use of the funds and resources.
SAIPEH stands for Support Activities In Poverty Eradication and Health This NGO is based in the Mumias district of Western Province. They have a range of projects which are all aimed at combating AIDS. Up to 30% of the population are carriers of the virus. Unemployment is over 90%. This area is extremely rural and the sugar cane industry totally dominates the economy. Young people have a lot of time on their hands with little to do. That is where the benefit of the football league comes in. SAIPEH will oversee the running of the league and take responsibility for the budget. It is called the Mumias district Sporting Chance International Peace League. The title reflects how the Kenyans realise the value of peace and wish to foster this through sport.
