Director
of Football Training School
Stephen Mucheru played for Super League club KCC, before deciding
to return to his roots and coach the youth who live in and around
his own area in Nairobi. After several years with poor facilities,
no kit and a couple of old footballs he developed his own training
school with nearly 100 boys. He kept detailed records of attendance,
progress and playing records for each boy. He coached teams from
U.11 to U.17.
An overriding element of the training school philosophy is to promote
self esteem in the players and to encourage positive lifestyle choices.
This is exactly what SCI want to support.
In 2006 Sporting Chance International Football
Club (SCIFC) was formed with Stephen Mucheru as director. In that
year they gained promotion without receiving a single yellow or
red card. Such is the style and influence of Steve’s coaching
both on and off the field.
In September 2007 SCI Kenya set up The Sporting Chance International
Soccer Academy in Nairobi with Steve as its director.
