Fundraising events for 2010
Fundraising plans are well underway for 2010.

Storm Trentham is cycling with 10 friends from London to Cardiff between 2nd-4th April. The catch is that they are doing it on tandem bikes!

SCI Ambassador, Charlie Gold, is currently training for the Virgin London Marathon. SCI managed to secure a place (reserved 3 years ago). Charlie will be running his first marathon. Good luck to him for some injury free months and good training.

Godolphin School, partners of SCI, are holding a three night extraveganza, "Godolphin's Got Talent". The original pilot event, held last May, proved a great success. This time, with eliminatory evengings on 29th Jan. and 6th Feb., it will be bigger and better. The grand final is on March 11th.

If you would like to sponsor any of these events you donate online through Charity Choice. Look out for the link at the top of the page. Or, you can contact us via email for further information. Click on the link right now. Contact SCI.

Storm visits Kenya to review SCI work
Development Officer, Storm Trentham, has returned from Kenya from a recent visit. Her brief was to review the various projects that SCI are involved in. Her report will be invaluable for the trustees in Kenya and the UK as they consider how 2010 will shape up. Mumias, Western Kenya, is a key location for SCI work. Storm took the opportunity to coach lacrosse in several schools. This is a key area for development next year. The photo shows a girls from St Mary's School after a coaching session.

SCI-Kenya Director in UK
Fred Osore, the SCI-Kenya Director spent two weeks in the UK visiting a number of schools for assemblies and classroom sessions. He made a huge impact at the Godolphin School in Salisbury. After hearing his story in an assembly the girls were encouraged to have a Mad Hair Day and raised over £575.00. This was Fred's first visit to the Uk and he found the people very warm - quite unlike the cold weather. His second week coincided with the annual International Week at Hayle Community School starting on 23rd March. He spent two full days speaking in assemblies and teaching pupils from year 7 and 9 before returning home to continue his work at DayStar University as PA to the vice chancellor, while he studies for an MA in business communication.

Tackle Africa hold coaching session at SCI Academy
Alistair and Graeme from Tackle Africa were our visitors at the SCI Soccer Academy on 28th February and 1st March 2009. About 50 lads aged between 8 and 16 years turned up for the training. Alistair trained the under 14 and under 16’s while Graeme handled the under 10 and under 12’s. The training was very enjoyable to the boys. Tthe training on 1st March was even better, again with over 50 boys turning up. It started at about 2.15p.m and ended at 4.30p.m. A small party awaited the boys at the end of the training. The party was a thank you for the under 10’s who had brought home a trophy last December.

Earlier, Mike and Steve, our two coached attended a coaching clinic at Garden Hotel in Machakos from Sunday 22nd to Wednesday 25th February 2009. The training was organized by Alive and Kicking in conjunction with Tackle Africa. They gained invaluable skills especially on how to include HIV/AIDS messages in coaching. Now they will start incorporating the skills they gained from the two Tackle Africa coaches into their coaching. SCI is very grateful to Joel of Alive and Kicking and the two coaches from Tackle Africa for giving us an opportunity to be trained by them. We look forward to deepening our relationship with these two organizations and hope that Tackle Africa will include SCI in their circuit of Kenyan contacts.
