Citizenship GCSE – great coursework for a great cause

How your school can raise money to help

  • The poor
  • Children
  • Young people
  • Promote health
  • Improve education

As a part of the Citizenship GCSE coursework students are asked to form into small groups to complete a charity based project. For many the most difficult decision is who to raise money for and how to get in contact with them. SCI has run a very successful pilot at Hayle Community School by providing all the support and encouragement pupils need to produce their coursework.

How does it work?
It couldn’t be simpler. After showing an expression of interest the ‘secretary’ of the group of students writes a letter to SCI outlining the fund raising activity or event they would like to do. A letter of endorsement from the class teacher is sent with it. SCI responds by providing all the support materials necessary for a successful project.

How much should I aim to raise?

  • It’s up to you. Whatever you manage to achieve will be used to make a difference to the lives of others. Most students aim for about £30.00 as a minimum. Some have raised considerably more.

What can I do?

  • Initiate a non uniform day
  • Sponsored walks, swims, runs and bike rides are favourites
  • We’ve had rock concerts and car boot sales too
  • Check out the ideas pages on this website

Benefits to the school

  • Potential story for the local press and school newsletter
  • Build a partnership with SCI

“Sporting Chance International gave us the opportunity to enhance the educational experience of the under privileged. Our citizenship coursework allowed us to raise public awareness of the social and political situations that affects the lives of children across Africa. It was a really rewarding experience knowing that we have contributed to improving the lives of others and we would like to thank SCI for giving us this chance to take part in such a worthwhile cause, and would strongly encourage others to donate whatever they can as every little bit helps.”
