Visit from Kenyan Dignitaries
The Mayor for the Mumias district in Western Kenya and the town clerk are likely to be visiting the UK in September. The visit is aimed at raising the profile of SCI and will coincide with an African Awareness Day on September 18th at Hayle Community School. SCI already works in the Mumias area, distributing kit, funding a football league and supporting the work of SAIPEH. The visit should foster greater links in the future between West Cornwall and Mumias. (6th Septmber 2008)
Easter Visit to Kenya 2008
Five teachers and a police officer visited the various projects that SCI support during 12 days over the holiday period. Fortunately, Kenyan school were not on holiday, so it was possible to include a number of visits on a very busy schedule. Students were excited at the prospect of learning about the similarities and differences of UK and Kenyan life.
Full details of the trip can be found on a blog. If you are interested in travelling to Kenya to do voluntary work within SCI or feel you could help locally, get in touch with Storm, our development officer.
